Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know your products and services are right for me?

We start with planning first—no one-size-fits-all packages here. Because we’re not tied to a single company or platform, we can customize from a wide range of solutions to fit your unique goals, situation, and timeline.

Do I really need a plan right now? I’m not rich.

You don’t need to be wealthy to benefit from a plan. Most of our clients are dual-income military families with stable pay and benefits—they just want to make the most of it.

Can’t I figure this out on my own?

You could—but most transitioning service members don’t know what they don’t know. Transition planning is complex, and the stakes are high. We help you avoid costly mistakes and make confident decisions.

What makes you different from other professionals?

We specialize in military-to-civilian transitions. We understand the SBP, TSP, VA benefits, and the life you’re walking into. This isn’t theory—it’s real-world, mission-driven planning for people just like you.

Do I have to buy products to work with you?

No. You can work with us in whatever way suits you best, even if it’s just consuming our content! But if you need products, we can help you select the right ones based on your needs.

What if I’m already working with a professional?

That’s great—but most civilian advisors haven't been through the military retirement process themselves, and might not be familiar with a lot of the nuances of military benefits and transition. We can work alongside your existing advisor, or serve as your main guide—whatever works best for you.

What’s the cost?

For coaching, we offer a variety of packages, from one-time plans to ongoing coaching. It’s always transparent, and we can answer any pricing questions during your free consultation.

If you're interested in obtaining life insurance, costs are determined by the company providing the coverage, and are usually based on your biological sex, age, overall health, and tobacco use. Costs can vary from company to company, which is why we work with multiple companies to ensure you find the best plan for protecting your family.

What’s included in the free consultation?

A real conversation about your situation. No sales pitch, no pressure. Just insight into what’s possible and whether we’re a good fit.

Is this just for retirees?

No. While many of our clients are retiring from service, we also work with active-duty members planning ahead, and post-transition veterans looking for clarity and structure.

I already took TAP—why would I need this?

It's important to keep in mind that while TAP has some great information, the scope of what it actually covers is very limited. We take what you learned and go much deeper—with planning that’s tailored, strategic, and actionable.

How long does the planning process take?

We typically recommend that you begin at least 12 months from your transition date. But really, as soon as you make the decision to retire/transition to make sure that the work we’re doing with you doesn’t interfere with everything else you’ll be dealing with. Most people go from consult to complete plan within a few months, but there’s no rush or pressure.

What if my spouse is the one who handles the money?

Then it's especially important that they're involved! The military retirement process is a team sport, and it’s important to remember that it’s not just you who’s transitioning. We work with both partners—whether you’re financially savvy or just want someone to explain things clearly. We believe both voices matter in the planning process.

What if I’ve already made some big decisions—can I still get help?

Absolutely. Even if you’ve already selected benefits or insurance, there’s still a lot we can optimize, protect, or improve. It’s never too late to plan smarter.

I’m overwhelmed. Will this just give me more to do?

Actually, just the opposite! Most of our clients feel a huge relief after we've shown them where and how to focus their efforts. We help you get organized, create clarity, and take the pressure off your shoulders.

Can you help me understand my VA benefits better?

Yes. We help you see how your VA benefits fit into your full financial life, and how to use them strategically—not just as a side note.

What happens after I get my plan?

You’ll have clear steps, a roadmap, and support options. Some clients continue with coaching, others use the plan independently—we make it work for you.

Is this only for senior enlisted and officers?

Nope. We work with enlisted and officers alike. If you’ve served, you qualify for the benefits—and the clarity—we can help provide.

I’m not retiring for a few years—should I wait?

Planning ahead gives you more control and flexibility. Even if retirement is 2–5 years out, the sooner you get organized and start building your strategy, the better off you'll be when retirement rolls around!

Do you only work with veterans in a specific state or branch?

No—we work with veterans from all branches and across the U.S. and overseas. Virtual meetings make it easy no matter where you’re stationed or living.
